Most of my Saturdays start with a trip to my local Trader Joes to stock up for the week and it never fails, their flower section gets me EVERY.SINGLE.TIME. There is a reason you have to walk through those gorgeous blooms to get into the store! But by Wednesday I’m depressed again, having to throw out those once so beautiful blooms. Ugh, the circle of life, right??
So, when my son’s first birthday came around in late August, I knew I wanted to have some sort of modern, neutral floral arrangement for the tables but also knew they would die after an hour in 100 degree heat…so what to do?
Dried flowers, of course! Not only were they already ‘dead’, but super neutral, for a boy’s first birthday party. I should also say what sold me was that fall was on the horizon and I wanted (nope NEEDED) some fall decor for my house! Two birds, I tell ya!
Here is what I ordered for these particular arrangements:
- Pampas grass
- Natural Sun Palm Leaves
- White Dried Centaurea
- White Broom Bloom
- Burnt Palm Fronds
- Indian Rice Grass
- Bell Cup Stems
- Preserved Ferns in Cream
- Dried Billy Buttons
- Dried Thistle
- Natural Bunny’s Tail
- Lunaria Silver Dollar
Then just throw them together! I’m sure there is a technical method you should use and probably rules to follow, but I’ve found that everyone likes what they like, so just start arranging. If you don’t like something, take it out and try again. I think some of the prettiest arrangements are the messy, unstructured kind, so just have fun!
Here is the finished product! I only made two for this video post, but I made eight for the party and have reused them for all the fall vibes in our house.
I also think these florals would be fun to add in for a little different fall vibe!
